A New Season
This year, we have been joined by Shahrul, a local island boy. He has worked in the dive industry here for several years, as tank man, boat driver and dive guide. He joins us as our new dive leader, and has already proven himself an invaluable member of the team. I am happy to be able to report that conditions are very good for the time of year - especially compared to this time last year! Visibility has been generally good - with over 10 metres some days. The monsoon is finally blowing itself out, and conditions will (hopefully!) improve further over the next few weeks. Which is a blessing, because the season has got off to a great start and we have been very busy. Chinese New Year (Feb 12-13) saw us full, and we were full later in February. One of our regular divers, Paul the Psycho, is a clinical psychologist, and lecturer at the International Medical University in KL - not to mention a keen diver. Paul is closely involved with student development, and encourages them to take up new activities to broaden their experiences and horizons. At his suggestion, five of his students recently decided to take up the open water course, which they completed with us at the end of February. We look forward to welcoming them - and Paul - back as certified divers. And finally, some really good news: The Bar Is OPEN! Din has re-opened the bar at Tekek Inn, two minutes along the beach from us. He and his wife, Isobel, put on a great BBQ most evenings, and specials can be arranged. Great place for a cold beer and a chat - and you can pick your own music (or even bring it with you!). Look forward to seeing you. Posted by Julian, March 8, 2002
