Dr Tarek Amin, better known as Pako, is an Egyptian/Austrian who has over twenty years experience in the diving business. He started in the Red Sea and has also been working in the Maldives. He arrived in Malaysia in 1990 to write a thesis on history at University Malaya and financed his studies by diving in Tioman, first as Recreational Manager of Tioman Island Resort (now Berjaya Imperial Beach Resort) and then with his own dive centre in Tekek village. He has been the Manager of Scuba Point Tioman since 1996. Pako likes challenges and always has something new and exciting to do. Earlier he has been searching for gold in the rivers of Tioman, as well as ceramics from the turn of the century. He has written a little book on Tioman's history and now he's into wildlife photography and hopes to be able to document the rich flora and fauna of this beautiful island. Pako speaks Arabic, English and German fluently.
Susanne is of Swedish/German descent and came to Malaysia in 1994 on a holiday. She liked it so much , she stayed and has been working as a Diving Instructor ever since. She had an established career in the travel business in Sweden but decided to follow her bliss and settle for the sand, sea and sunsets of Tioman. When out of the water she spends her time learning web-page design and cooking delicious Asian food. She also enjoys tending to her garden and grows beautiful tropical plants and flowers as well as exploring the jungles and uncovering the many secrets of Tioman. Susanne speaks Swedish, English, pretty good German, some French and Malay.
Fadil is a Malaysian Malay and is a native of Tioman island. He is our Captain and irreplaceable Jack-of-all-trades. Give him any type of engine and he'll fix it. We call him Fido Dido and his wife cooks the best food on this island. He has been with us since 1993. "I would go on a bark boat around the world as long as he's driving the boat," says Susanne. He has the deepest knowledge of the sea and it's moods, is a certified diver and very safety-conscious Captain.
Julian, has been living in Malaysia for 3 years. He has recently left a promising
carreer in the environmental impact assessment business to pursue an old dream of his: to one day
open and run his own divecentre somewhere in the world. So now he gets to learn and practice with
us here on the island.
